Welcome to the Real World
As the semester draws closer to an end I realized that I am really getting close to finishing college. I started out at a community college right out of high school and wasn’t going for anything specific but to just get my general educations out of the way. At that time transferring to SIUE seems so far down the road that graduating was not even something I really thought about. Being now almost halfway done with my junior year it is finally setting in that my time in school is almost over. Like a lot of people in college I have been enrolled in at least one class every school semester since kinder-garden excluding summers and breaks of course. It is very hard to imagine going into a job every single day and not going into school. Ideally I will get a job in PR and fully use my Bachelors Degree but the reality is there are no guarantees. While that diploma is very valuable it is still not your ticket to a success career. With the job market the mess that it is in I just hope by the time I graduate I will actually be working somewhere that I want to be and doing something that I enjoy if not love to do.
Danny, with an attitude and willingness like yours, you are sure to find something you love to do. You’ll have an excellent resume because of all of the skills you learned in 313. And plus you’ve got a while before you get out there. So live it up!
I know exactly what you mean. I graduate in May, and I cant believe how fast it all went by. I too am planning to use my speech communications degree, but like you said there are no garuntees. The real world kind of seems like a scary place. I know you’ll find something you love and that you’ll be awsome at it, until then you have a year and a half left of school, so make the most of it!
I feel the same way! I went to community college after highschool where I was studying nursing. I did a complete turn around when I decided to come to SIUE and get my bachelors in Public Relations. I am also scared about graduating and not finding a job. I feel that I have worked way too hard in school to have to stay working at the job I am now.
